Coventry University and The Gambia Explore Dynamic Partnership for Economic Growth and Education

In an exciting development for higher education and economic progress in West Africa, leaders of Coventry University Group have held in-depth discussions with the President of The Gambia, exploring potential collaborations.

Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, John Latham CBE, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), Richard Wells, sat down with President Adama Barrow in a series of talks aimed at driving the country’s economic development and higher education sector.

“We’re thrilled to have met His Excellency Adama Barrow, the President of the Republic of The Gambia,” said Coventry University Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Latham CBE. “We’re exploring how Coventry University Group can form a strategic alliance with the National University of the Gambia to stimulate growth and attract inward investment into the country.”

A pivotal point in these discussions revolved around the National University of the Gambia’s newest campus in the town of Faraba Banta. President Barrow, who is also the Chancellor of the National University of the Gambia, welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the Coventry University Group, aiming to revolutionize the country’s higher education system.

In addition to these discussions, Professor Silas Lwakabamba, regional managing director of Coventry University’s Africa Hub in Rwanda, participated in a tour of the Faraba campus, further affirming the commitment of both institutions to their potential collaboration.

“As a Group, we want to partner with the Gambian government and higher education providers to augment higher education capacity and the country’s economic development,” said Coventry University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), Professor Richard Wells. “Our visit to the Faraba Banta campus underscored the impressive progress being made to ensure students acquire invaluable skills, thereby enabling the country to bridge the skills gap.”

Coventry University Group has built a global presence, with Global Hubs in Rwanda, Dubai, Singapore, China, and Brussels. Additional expansions include an upcoming hub in India, a campus in Wroclaw, Poland, a joint institution in China, and associated campuses in Morocco and Egypt.

This potential collaboration represents a step forward in Coventry University Group’s mission to deliver transformative education worldwide, and an opportunity for The Gambia to bolster its higher education system and drive economic growth.
