Chinese Firm, Empowering Gabon’s Technical Talents and Addressing Africa’s Water Crisis

In the heart of Gabon, a transformative educational movement is underway. As a pivotal partner of AVIC International Holding Corporation (AVIC INTL), XCMG is championing the cause of technical education. Offering 12 specialized courses, XCMG Technician College is on a mission to train 3,000 full-time and 3,600 short-term students annually.

The college’s commitment goes beyond traditional teaching. With a comprehensive curriculum, hands-on internship opportunities, and a focus on faculty development, XCMG is shaping the future of Gabon’s technical workforce.

The educators at XCMG Technician College have crafted a unique model for construction machinery technician education. Their training materials, stemming from in-depth studies of 22 products across nine models, are now available in French, serving as a valuable resource at training centers.

Kassa, an educator from Masuku University of Science and Technology, shared his enriching experience: “XCMG’s approach is holistic. Beyond theoretical knowledge, we were immersed in practical simulations, gaining insights into China’s vocational standards. Our goal is to share this knowledge, uplifting the skills of Gabonese workers.”

On a global scale, XCMG’s Global Operator Excellence Program has made commendable strides. With eight terms of overseas training, they’ve upskilled nearly 200 individuals across 19 countries. Their collaboration with Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co., Ltd has also cultivated 100 multi-disciplinary talents now serving in 13 nations.

But XCMG’s vision isn’t limited to education. They’re fervently dedicated to social responsibilities, from infrastructure support and local employment to disaster relief and education. Their recent initiative, the Africa Water Cellar Project in Ethiopia, aims to combat the severe drought by providing 40 households with clean water access.

Aligned with the SDG Goal 6, this project is a beacon of hope for Ethiopia. As part of XCMG’s “Help with Love” campaign, in collaboration with the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), the initiative has already built 121 water cellars since 2016, benefiting 9,719 individuals.

Liu Hui, the general manager of XCMG’s subsidiary in Uganda, expressed the company’s ethos: “Our commitment to Africa is unwavering. We aim to support their growth with our technologies and solutions, hoping our recent project brings relief to many in Ethiopia.”

XCMG’s innovative water solutions, inspired by China’s arid regions, address the water scarcity challenge. These solutions, including rooftop and surface water collection, store rainwater for use during dry spells, offering a sustainable solution to the water crisis.

Yin Qian, director of CFRD’s Ethiopia office, lauded XCMG’s efforts: “XCMG has been our steadfast partner, consistently championing corporate social responsibilities.”

Yang Dongsheng, CEO of XCMG, encapsulated the company’s mission: “Our global roadmap is clear. We’re exporting not just products but knowledge, skills, and training to foster local talent and drive economic growth.”
