As part of the preparations to celebrate 10 years of its existence, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation (MIF) is producing a photobook titled My Africa, looking forward to the next decade and capturing African’s visions of the future of the continent . As it begins this celebration journey all Africans are invited to take part in a photo competition.

The is an opportunity for  African photographers of all ages and abilities to capture and submit their vision of the content with their own cameras as they feel will shape the continent in ten years time.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation seeks for images that capture Africa in its many diverse settings and communities, representing the development, challenges and could potentially look like over the next 10 years. As MIF turns 10, it is not only concerned about its history, it’s also interested in looking ahead and thinking about the future of Africa. The theme is open to each individual’s interpretation but the search is for beautiful, inspiring and original photographs.

There are three main categories:

  • professional
  • amateur
  • under 18

One winner will be selected from each category, with prizes of $10,000 USD awarded to each of the three winners. In the case of the under 18s winner, the prize money will be split equally between the student and his/her school.

How to Enter:

  • To submit an entry, visit, upload your photo, and fill in the online form. All photographs must be submitted by 17:00 BST on Friday, 3 June 2016.
  • Entries will be judged by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation team and the winners announced on our website and social media channels.
  • A selection of the best photographs will be displayed in an exhibition at the 10 year celebration, and selected entries will also be displayed on the Mo Ibrahim Foundation website.
