On the 15th of October 2016, the Silicon Mountain community will be having a launch event for 2016 edition of PL/ Meetups at Skylabase. The event will start at 2pm prompt.
The P/L Meetups is an initiative started by GDG Buea, in partnership with Skademy, ActivSpaces Cameroon and supported by the startups of Buea. The objective is to foster the development of computer programming and digital product development skills in Silicon Mountain (Buea, South West Region Cameroon).
Last year saw the first edition of the P/L Meetups with 5 programming languages thought in 8 sessions each summing to a total of 40 sessions.
The goal of this launch event is to clarify the logistics of the whole PL/ Meetups program. Initially, the plan was to organize 240 sessions of training for 10 different programming languages. However, since the program has announced several more startups and individuals have volunteered to support the program by offering free training hours and/ or their locations.
As of today, the 14th of October 2016, there are 20 different programs which have escalated the number of sessions to about 360 to take place in 8 different locations in Buea and Limbe.
During this event, students will be informed of the various locations, mentors and time for the various sessions. All the mentors will be presented to the students so they get to know who will be guiding them through their first practical steps into computer programming.
The event is expected to last for 2 hours and after the event, there will be networking between students and mentors.
Key items on the agenda of the event will be; an explanation of the PL/ Meetup program, a success story of previous beneficiaries of the PL/ Meetups, Career Counselling and a presentation of the mentors.
