Following the Argentina’s loss in the final of the Copa America Centenario, Lionel Messi in the heat of anger and frustration announced that he was done playing for his national team. According to, Lionel Messi has gone back on his original statement and he is sure not retiring anytime soon.

Here are the words which broke our hearts a few weeks ago “I think this is best for everyone. First of all for me, then for everyone. I think there’s a lot of people who want this, who obviously are not satisfied, as we are not satisfied reaching a final and not winning it”.”It’s very hard, but the decision is taken. Now I will not try more and there will be no going back.” Messi said.

This was a big shock to everyone. Argentina and Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero said he hoped Messi would “reflect” on his decision and reconsider.”I think he spoke while he was heated because a beautiful opportunity escaped us,” said Romero. “I can’t imagine a national team without Messi.” Well, Romero was right anyway. This decision was so hasty and out of disappointment.’s report comes from Argentinian newspaper, La Nacion, who report that Messi will return in November to play for La Albiceleste, which all but confirms our suspicions that his initial announcement that he was retiring was simply done in the heat of the moment.

Simply put, Messi will come back because he’s now laser-focused on competing in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and winning it for Argentina. At only 29, it makes perfect sense that the man who is arguably the world’s greatest player comes back to play for his nation, where he already holds the all-time scoring record.

Lionel Messi is not retiring and one lesson we could get from this whole drama; never make hasty decisions in the heat of the moment. Not especially in public.
