Another opportunity for African startups to pitch in an international forum. If you’ve not been able to get an opportunity with the other platforms, then this is for you. Digital Lab Africa is a new platform organised by the French Institute of South Africa, DISCOP AFRICA and TRACE. All startups involved in web creation, digital music, web creation, virtual reality, video game are invited to submit their projects.
Digital Lab Africa is created to provide a springboard for African talent in multimedia creation. Startups will have their projects mentored with the support of French leading companies (studios, producers, broadcasters, distributors).
Successful applicants in the web creation and transmedia category – which is open to innovative concepts and to any type of content – will be mentored by Lagardère Studios, a leading audio-visual production group in Europe, and European cultural channel ARTE. Okio-Studios will mentor virtual reality projects, meanwhile CCCPand 1D TOUCH/ BELIEVE DIGITAL will mentor video game and digital music applicants respectively.
Submit your project before August 31 (deadline) and win a 3,000 € cash prize, which goes with a Digital Lab Africa Incubation ticket to make your project happen. The incubation ticket will comprise:
- Mentorship by leading companies in multimedia
- Residence time in France within a digital cluster
- Participation in benchmark multimedia events
During the Digital Lab Africa launch at Abidjan, Frédéric Chambon, Regional Head of Media, Film & Music at the French Embassy in South Africa, and producer of DLA described the platform as “African talent in action combined with French touch at its best, this is the very idea of Digital Lab Africa”
He explains: “DLA is a platform dedicated to the African digital content of tomorrow. In the age of digital convergence, TV, film, music and video game, content in Africa is increasingly consumed on internet and mobile phones, like everywhere else.
